It is common for us to brush our teeth after eating. However, depending on the type of food, brushing before eating is effective in some cases.

Doctors at the British Dental Health Foundation said, “ When drinking sweet drinks such as fruit juice or smoothies, brushing your teeth before eating is effective. to prevent it,” he said.

According to a report by the British daily The Telegraph, a dental survey conducted by this foundation on 1,000 people showed that bad habits or common sense are actually harming dental health .

Dr. Nigel Carter, president of the foundation, said, “Studies are showing that people with poor dental health are at higher risk of heart disease , diabetes, and stroke . I didn’t know,” he said.

Thirty percent of respondents thought that smoothies, which are fresh fruit drinks, are beneficial to dental health. In this regard, Dr. Carter said, ” Fruit smoothies can be good in that they make people eat more fruit, but  they contain a lot of sugar and  acids , so if you drink it every day, it  will hurt your teeth .”

“If you drink a fruit smoothie, your teeth will be attacked by  acids for about an hour,” he said. “The smoothie  erodes the enamel layer that protects the teeth and  causes toothache .” He said, ” It’s good to  brush your teeth before drinking , but brushing your teeth after drinking doesn’t prevent corrosion because the acid has already come into contact with your teeth.”

Carter recommends brushing your teeth  at least twice a day, brushing your teeth before eating sweets and drinks, and seeing a doctor regularly to keep your teeth healthy  .
